In 1974, he started his formal clinical studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Monterey, California, where he focused his studies on acupuncture, herbology, Medical Qigong therapy, traumatology, and Chinese massage. After receiving certification in acupuncture and herbology from an 1978-81 internship, Professor Johnson operated clinics in Colorado Springs, Colorado (1981-84), working as a consultant and associate in acupuncture and Medical Qigong therapy to Western medical doctors, naturopaths, and chiropractors. In 1993, Professor Johnson furthered his clinical studies at the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center and at the Acupuncture Institute of China, Academy of T.C.M. He was the first foreigner from the Acupuncture Institute of China invited to treat patients in the Medical Qigong Clinic at the Xi Yuan Hospital of T.C.M. (featured in Bill Moyers special "Healing and the Mind"). There he interned as a Doctor of Medical Qigong Therapy, specializing in the treatment of cysts, tumors, and kidney dysfunctions. Professor Johnson also interned as a Doctor of Anmo Therapy at the Orthopedic Traumatology Clinic of the Hu Guo Si Hospital of T.C.M. (in Beijing, China) specializing in Chinese bone-setting, traumatology, and tissue manipulation. His training in somatic regulation also includes Neuromuscular Therapy, Psychophysical Integrational Therapy, Advanced Visceral Manipulation, and Advanced Cranio-Sacral Therapy. In 1995, Professor Johnson obtained his Masters Degree in Medical Qigong Therapy from the Medical Qigong College at the Hai Dian University in Beijing, China, from which he graduated as a "Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine" specializing in Medical Qigong.

Medical issues can be a challenge in the best of circumstances. For abuse survivors, dealing with health problems can present special challenges. Triggers, low self esteem, fear of authority, body issues, and touch can all add to the mix when addressing medical problems and undergoing treatment. Dealing with medical problems after abuse can stir all sorts of things. Fear of doctors and dentists are not uncommon. The question of how to put appropriate trust in medical personnel while taking responsibility for your own health is a skill that must be learned. Becoming aware of all your options and making wise treatment decisions are important. How and when to disclose an abuse history to your medical care team is another issue that must be considered. Misa Leonessa shares her thoughts and experience in living with several chronic health issues, including a genetic bleeding disease, and the challenges she has faced through many doctor visits, medical procedures, and many surgeries. She has learned how and when to use western medicine (it has saved her life more than once), and when to find healthy alternatives. Her journey has taught her how to own her body and the ultimate decisions for what will be done to it, by whom, and when. Through taking responsibility for her own health, she has been able to use nutrition, exercise, and other interventions to greatly minimize the need for more tests and surgeries. Misa knows the struggle with health issues from a survivor's perspective and is learning how to thrive in the midst of many challenges.

Robert Hayward was born August 23, 1959, number nine of ten children to parents who were both the original animators for Walt Disney. In 1976 and 1977, he studied at Laguna College of Art and design, earning a scholarship to Carrara, Italy. In 1999, he was commissioned to design and build a monument for a fallen Native Firefighter, The Gregory Pacheco Memorial, in San Diego County, Ca. Robert graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Palomar College in California in 2011 and is a certified CAADAC Drug and Alcohol counselor. He completed his certification as a Trained Intervention Specialist in 2013. Robert is Ho-Chunk Indian, Member of The Native American Church Pala/La Jolla Chapter, and inspirational speaker on Indian Reservations and Treatment Centers about spirituality and recovery.
