Dr. Elizabeth Jacobi of the Music Medicine Institute

Dr. Elizabeth Jacobi, a professional opera singer, a delegate to foreign cultural programs, and a student of a well known doctor from Harvard, has devoted a great deal of her professional life toward her research and development of music therapy, including founding the Music Medicine Institute. At MMI the staff of doctors, interns, and volunteers works to “enhance the quality of life of persons with acute or chronic illnesses through music therapy”. Not only does MMI provide clinical care in music therapy, but it also trains healthcare professionals in the “therapeutic use of music and imagery”, it conducts research and developes educational programs pertaining to music therapy, and it hosts various seminars and workshops about the “therapeutic use of music”. Located in Candler, Georgia, MMI's affiliation with St. Joseph's healthcare system provides Savannah, GA, and her surrounding towns, with a well rounded music therapy program. MMI participates in both inpatient and outpatient programs, and currently has a representative in the Oncology Unit assisting both patients and medical staff with music therapy.
