Bio October 14 12:00 Afshin Zandi was born in 1968 in Iran to a very dysfunctional and violent family. In his early years he was very sickly and his father had to work three jobs to pay for his medication. Some of his relatives felt that maybe it would be better to let him die because it was so expensive to keep him alive. This was very difficult for Afshin to deal with because he truly believed that his family was going to let him die. His first experience with spirituality was when he was about five years old. He went with his father to a shrine temple of the Sufis, the followers of the Rumi, which is the spiritual aspect of Islam. Rumi is famed as a great writer and poet who introduced a very unique form of singing and dancing, known as circle dancing. Watching these men twirl in a circle for hours was fascinating for him.
