Alexander Thomas Augusta a surgeon, professor of medicine and veteran of the American Civil War served on the staff of the Freedmans Hospital in Washington D.C. that later became Howard University Hospital where he reorganized the Medical Dept. Rebecca J. Cole the second United States African American Woman Physician and first Black Woman to graduate from the Womans Medical College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller an African American psychiatrist who made significant contributions to the study of Alzheimers disease. William Edward Allen, Jr. was born just 8 years after X-ray was discovered. He was a radiologist, researcher, professor and philanthropist. He shaped radiology as a science. He established many schools for X-ray technology and gained international recognition in the field.
