ACTS was established in 1986 in response to concerns for peace and justice in Central America. Our mission is community development in partnership with farming villages in the remote mountains of Honduras. Honduras is a republic in Central America. The country is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua. The climate in Honduras varies from tropical in the lowlands to temperate in the mountains. Honduras, is about 40 square miles and the population exceeds 8 million. Honduras is most notable for production of minerals, coffee, tropical fruit, sugar cane and clothing exported into the international market. Natural resources include timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, antimony, coal, fish and shrimp. Honduran cuisine makes extensive use of coconut, in both sweet and savory foods, and even in soups.The Honduran territory consists mainly of mountains, but there are narrow plains along the coasts, a large undeveloped lowland jungle, La Mosquitia region in the northeast, and the heavily populated lowland Sula valley in the northwest. Porfirio Lobo Sosa was sworn into office as President of Honduras in 2010.Honduras has bilingual trilingual (Spanish, English, German/Turkish) schools. and numerous universities; however, Honduras is the sixth poorest country in Latin America.
